Gerald Daringer is one of the world’s most extraordinary ice swimmers. With his outstanding achievements under the most extreme conditions, his pioneering spirit, and his long-standing commitment to the sport of ice swimming, he has left a lasting mark on the international scene.
His athletic achievements speak for themselves. Gerald Daringer has completed six Ice Miles to date, including three Extreme Ice Miles, and belongs to a globally unique group of athletes. Only four people worldwide have successfully mastered the combination of the most demanding IISA challenges:

With this extraordinary combination, Gerald Daringer ranks among the most accomplished ice swimmers in history. His current distance record stands at 2.72 kilometers—a feat that combines endurance, mental strength, and exceptional cold resistance at the highest level.
In competitive sports as well, Gerald Daringer has been among the nation’s elite for years. He is a multiple Austrian champion in ice swimming over 250 meters, 500 meters, and 1,000 meters freestyle and regularly represents Austria successfully at international championships. His athletic career is marked by exceptional consistency and a constant willingness to push boundaries. He is also Vice Chair of IISA Austria.
In addition to his own successes, Gerald Daringer has played a decisive role in shaping the sport of ice swimming. As the founder of AQUA and ICE, he organizes and leads international training camps, qualifying events, and expeditions that prepare athletes from around the world for extraordinary challenges. His expertise in the areas of safety, cold acclimatization, and expeditions is highly regarded internationally.
Inclusion in ice swimming is a cause particularly close to his heart. As Vice Chair of the IISA Para Committee, Gerald Daringer is deeply committed to the development of para-ice swimming. Through his great personal dedication, he creates opportunities for athletes with disabilities to participate in competitions and expeditions and achieve extraordinary feats. His commitment has helped to firmly establish para-ice swimming within the IISA and further develop it internationally.
