Motivation:Jonty is an incredible and inspirational para Ice Swimmer.
In 2014 he became the first disabled swimmer to complete an Ice mile - swimming 1.4 miles.
In 2023 he was instrumental in getting the first ever para team to compete in the 4 x 250m relay in the World Championships in Samoens, France. He was one of the team.
In 2020 Jonty competed in the 1000m IISA GB Champs in a very respectable 22.20 mins, although the water was over 5C.
Jonty has competed in short distance events at the IISA World Champs in 2019 and 2023 as well as the inaugral European Champs in 2024. He has won many podium medals as is a shining light for all para swimmers. He constantly encourages and inspires other para and able bodied swimmers to join him in the ice.
Not only has Jonty achieved a lot of success in para ice swimming he has done so in open water swimming (North channel solo 2023, round Jersey 2024, team bits missing channel relay). Jonty has got an impressive 4 GWRs.
Jonty does more than ice swimming. He is Director and Vice President of IISA. He Chairs the IISA para committee. For 7 years he was an invaluable source of advice, information and support for the Chair of IISA GB. He attended all the GB Championships and refereed the vast majority. He also volunteers at Swim Your Swim and assists most weekends in winter to support swimmers attempting Ice Miles.
Jonty is a phenomenal para ice swimmer and I beleive he totally deserves to be in the IISHOF.
